NVFLAC ALERT - Attend the Foster Care Rule Change Hearing on Friday, April 11, 2014, 8:30 - 11:00 a.m.

The NV Division of Child & Family Services will hold a public hearing Friday, April 11, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (or until adjourned) on proposed changes to foster parent regulations that will require firearms owners to effectively surrender their Second Amendment rights, including the right to self-defense, in order to be foster parents in the Silver State. The same rule change will allow police officers to carry firearms holstered on their persons when off-duty and in the presence of their foster children, thus creating a class of "super-citizens" for foster care purposes.

The NVFAC believes law-abiding citizens, especially Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) holders, should have the same rights as peace officers in their civilian capacity have; and that off-duty peace officers acting as foster parents should have no more rights than do law-abiding citizens. We also believe that under the state firearms pre-emption statue, the DCFS does not have the legal authority to regulate firearms.

We encourage citizens to attend the hearing and politely express their opposition to the proposed rules change, and encourage the DCFS to extend the same privilege to law-abiding firearms-owning citizens and CHP holders that they now want to extend to off-duty police officers who are foster parents.
